Govt to Launch Housing Agency to Build 150000 Homes in Dublin and Cork
Govt to Launch Housing Agency to Build 150000 Homes in Dublin and Cork. The Government is planning to launch a new Land Development Agency which will build 150,000 homes in 20 years, backed by €1.25 billion funding. Around 30 zones in Dublin city and 10 in Cork city, which are owned by the State, will be put aside for the construction of the new homes. Homes put aside for social housing, as well as private and affordable residencies, are areas chosen as a mixture of previously announced schemes and new zones.
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin said that the idea of strategic land management agency is a good one. Giving an agency the power to pool together public land holdings to ensure that they are being used in the most appropriate way has real merit.
As per reports this is not the most effective use of public land and will limit the ability of the state to deliver the level of public housing that is required to meet social and affordable housing need. This agency and volatility dampening measure will bring more stability to sector allowing house builders the certainty to invest in their businesses, technology and contributing to rebuilding the Irish house building industry.
