Nippon Paint Announces the Winners of ‘Asia Young Designer Award 2018’, India Edition
More than 1300 students across India participated in the contest and 23 shortlisted candidates competed in the final round. One Gold winner from each category won a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a paid trip to compete in Asia Young Designer Summit 2018, in Singapore
Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited (Decorative Division), Asia’s leading paint manufacturer today announced the winners of the 2018 AYDA Awards (India) edition. The grand finale, held over a course of two days at Le Royal Méridien Hotel, Chennai, invited renowned architects Pinkish Shah (S+PS Architects), Krishnarao Jaisim (Jaisim Fountainhead), Jabeen Zacharias (Jabeen Zacharias Architects), Swanzal Kak Kapoor (Saka Architecture), Tanuja Kanvinde (Kanvinde Rai & Chowdhury Architects & Planners) and Mahesh Radhakrishnan (The Madras Office For Architects) to judge the shortlisted projects, and award the winners.
Architecture category: Tanay Bothara – VIT’s PVP College of architecture, Pune
Interior Design Category: Bhavya – Pearl Academy, New Delhi
The current edition saw the participation of more than 1300 architecture and interior design students across India and 4 students emerged the winners, out of 23 shortlisted candidates. The event was organised with the able support of Ethos, the brainchild of Ar. Gita Balakrishnan – an organisation that works towards motivating young minds on the built environment. One winner from each category (Architecture and Interior Design) were awarded the gold and silver award and cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively. The Gold winners will now receive a fully paid trip to compete at Nippon Paint’s Asia Young Designer Summit, to be held at Singapore on March 21st 2019.
All the respective AYDA 2018 GOLD WINNERS from 15 Asian countries will compete for the coveted Asia Young Designer of the Year Award 2018, Pan-Asia level and also get a life time opportunity to attend a 6-week Harvard Design Discovery Summer Programme at Harvard University – U.S.A, worth more than USD 10,000.

A panel discussion on the topic ‘ARCHITECTURE 2.0: Beyond Curriculum’ by eminent architects Oscar Concessao (OCI Architects), Ponni M.Concessao (OCI Architects), C. R. Raju (C. R. Raju Associates), Senthil Kumar (Chairman of IIA TN Chapter, Senthil Kumar and Associates) moderated by Ar. Suresh Kuppusamy (former dean SAP, Design Chair, Sathyabama University) threw light on the gaps between curriculum and career the students come across and provided them insights on how to tackle them in real life.
