Plan Set Out for Massive Housing Development at Mt Roskill in Auckland
Plan Set Out for Massive Housing Development at Mt.Roskill in Auckland. A central Auckland suburb, Mt Roskill is set to get an around 10,000 new houses in the next 15 years, announced the Housing Minister Phil Twyford saying that it was a step towards the country “building its way out of the housing crisis”. The Housing NZ subsidiary Homes, Land, Community (HLC) is undertaking the development.
This redevelopment will include more than 2400 modest, affordable KiwiBuild homes for first-home buyers, around 3000 market homes and more than 3000 new state homes. The total cost will be about $4 billion, but Mr Twyford said that the net cost to the government would be minimal.
They are basically funded through the redevelopment of the land, they are taking advantage of Housing New Zealand’s balance sheet to do some of this work, but they are not expecting to have to inject any additional finance from the government.
Mr Twyford said that the first stage of the development would see 80 new homes built and ready to move into next year.
Construction of new homes has already begun in the southern part of Mt Roskill, but a new stage of building in mid-2019 will see more than 450 new homes built.
The 2400 KiwiBuild homes and thousands of affordable market homes being built will give many in the community a real shot at owning their own home. Those interested in the new housing development can track its progress.
This redevelopment will not only provide families in Mt Roskill with high-quality new, homes, it will also provide the infrastructure to cope with growth and connect with the planned light rail line at Dominion Road, which will transform Mt Roskill.
